Why Get Involved?

A Proven Model has Created Long-Term Change

The GHI changes lives in metropolitan cities and rural, developing communities. Tribal and village leaders, local universities, hospitals, government representatives, GHI doctors, faculty and students all work together to develop solutions to local challenges - from improving the quality of health care or getting clean water, to finding new ways to access education, food and jobs.

The Global Health Initiative - A different approach to making a difference

Rick HaskinsWhether you are a doctor, health care practitioner, educator, student, business leader or concerned citizen, your involvement is critical.  Join the GHI and make a difference that impacts thousands; a difference that lasts for generations; a difference that will change your life forever. – Rick Haskins, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy, CW Network, Member of the GHI Steering Committee and a pioneer donor to the GHI.

An Exchange of Knowledge

We start with the exchange of knowledge and personnel in a medical environment. Physicians, residents and medical students from Utah, in more than a dozen specialties, based on local need, teach and see patients. Physicians, residents and medical students from the host country often come to Utah to study, see patients and teach.  The program then expands into local communities, again based on need, with programs addressing problems such as poverty (through economic and entrepreneurial cooperatives) education related to maternal and child health, and study of local, tropical disease.

We Learn as Much as We Teach

In return, GHI members learn from talented colleagues and discover new ways of solving problems at home and around the world.  Students who are part of the GHI learn and teach - equally. Their lives are forever altered by the experience of working side by side with village residents, patients, doctors, and tribal leaders, understanding other cultures and embracing their challenges as their own.

Make a gift

Contributions are urgently needed to support expansion of this proven model to other areas of the world asking for GHI's assistance.

Your support funds physician training and access to better health care. Gifts help to improve nutrition, create jobs, and increase educational opportunities for all students.  And gifts directly enable the exchange of knowledge and understanding, developing better doctors, teachers, and leaders prepared for the global challenges of the future.
